It is our last full week of school, and it is jammed packed!

On Monday our 8th grade students will participate in our 8th grade Farewell Flowers. HMS will provide each 8th grade student ONE flower. This flower is to be given to an adult at HMS that has invested in them, made a mark on their middle school career, or been "their person". This is free for students. It is sometimes difficult for them to narrow it down to one person. They are welcome to write letters to other adults, but they will only be provided with one flower.

Monday afternoon students who purchased a yearbook will receive them. We will have a yearbook signing party that afternoon. All students will be allowed to attend the "party" and sign yearbooks. Please note, students who sign inappropriate things or mess up a students' yearbook will have disciplinary consequences. Students are not to bring shirts to sign. Students will want to bring a pen or writing utensil to sign each other's yearbooks.

Our current NJHS members will have their End of the Year Celebration on Monday. This will count for their monthly meeting. Please contact Mrs. Wood for more information.

Tuesday all Behaving Bucs (for the 4th quarter) are invited to attend the Faculty vs Students basketball game. It will be at the end of the school day. Students must be a behaving buc to attend.

Our Athletic Department will have their Spring Athletic Assembly on May 12. Every athlete will not receive an award. Awards will be for All Academic Teams, Most Improved, and Most Valuable Players.

Our students who earned Behaving Bucs for the entire second semester will be attending field trips this week. Main Event - May 13, Excalibur - May 14, and Six Flags - May 15. Please reach out to Marc.Braden@BossierSchools.org for more information.

8th grade students will have their job shadowing day on May 13. Permission slips were due last week. Student who did not turn in a permission slip and do not come to school will be marked absent. Please contact your 8th grade social studies teacher for more information.

Football tryouts for the HMS 26-27 school year will be May 13 and May 14! A waiver must be signed before trying out. It is the student's responsibility to get a waiver from Coach Newton. Students must wear their gym uniform to tryouts. No other equipment is needed.

Thursday 8th graders will participate in Outsiders Day to go along with the novel they are reading. Ideas on how to dress can be found: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1K0WkQW2mMYMdNyq0AR0VtQSgIjnOmOt3Y8K7bzts5QA/edit?usp=sharing

HMS will have our End of the Year Assemblies starting this week.

HMS will induct our new NJHS members on May 14. Information was already sent home. Please reach out to Mrs. Wood for more information.

📚 Library Book Hunt Time!
It’s time to track down any library books that may still be hiding at home! Ask your student to check backpacks, bedrooms, and vehicles. 👀

Returning books now helps avoid fines and gets them back on the shelves for other readers. Thank you for helping us round up our missing books! 😊

8th Grade Students and Parents,

HMS has a tradition called Farewell Flowers. All 8th graders will be allowed to participate in this event on May 12 during the school day. Each 8th grader will receive ONE flower and a tag. On the tag, students are asked to write a note to the adult at HMS that helped them BLOOM while in middle school. This can be to any adult at HMS - teacher, para, lunch lady, bus driver, office staff, custodian, counselor, or admin. Students will then be allowed to present their tag and flower to their adult. It is such a sweet time for the students and the adults.

Students will not have long for this activity. We are putting this on your radar now, so students can begin thinking about which adult at HMS they want to give their flower to.

If you have questions about this activity, please reach out to Mrs. Sanchez at Ashley.Sanchez@BossierSchools.org.

We understand that May is a BUSY month. Often times it is hard to keep up with everything going on. We hope this snapshot helps provide you with some key dates for HMS. Please understand we try very hard not to interfere with other events happening in our community, but sometimes events do overlap.

Please note:
- This is not every event - it is a snapshot of the BIGGER events!
- Our assembly times have changed. They will begin at 12:30.
- More information about these events will come out as we get closer to the dates.

Parents and Guardians,

We need your help to keep the momentum going while HMS students are LEAP Testing! To ensure every student can focus and do their best, please make sure they arrive on time and remain at school for the entire testing session. Our goal is a calm, distraction-free environment, so we kindly ask that you avoid checking students out early.

Any student who arrives on time and stays for the full duration of their testing sessions will qualify for a special reward this Friday, May 1!

Help your student stay focused and on-track so they can join in on the celebration!
